For this project we were assigned to create anything that we thought the world could benefit from. We decided to create an energy switch that eliminates standby energy. Standby energy is the use of electricity of a device without the device in use. We had to brainstorm a bunch of ideas for this project and we decided that the switch was the best one. We know it works, because when we turned on the T.V, it wouldn't turn on without the switch also being on. It shows that there is no electrical currents to the T.V and the electricity source, which means that there is no standby energy. We have made a few calls and hope that a couple of companies will look into our idea and help us grow our product. We still have a lot of work to do even though we have finished the assignment.
Important Physics concepts being used
Watt-is a derived unit of power that is defined as one joule per second. Which measures the rate of energy conversion or transfer. In our project we used kilowatts which consisted of 1000 watts.
Electrical Currents- are a flows of electric charge. This is the main idea of physics in our project.The Switch stops the currents when turned off but flow when turned on.
Review
I think overall the project went really well. There were many good things our group did. First, we all worked well together and helped each other. Second, everybody worked hard which caused us to create a great product that got some companies interested when we called and told them about it. I think the peak of our project is when we called our second company and they were interested in our project. Two things our group could have done better was presenting our project to the class. We could improve this next time by practicing and rehearsing our presentation more. Another thing we could work on is planning out what we say when we call the companies because sometimes we were stuck on what to say which made us sound unprofessional. Overall, the project was really fun and I had a good time creating the switch.
